State-of-the-Art Audio Video Systems Support California Education

In the scenic hills of Santa Rosa, the Community Performing Arts Center (PAC) at Sonoma Academy now stands as a testament to community involvement, technological excellence, and architectural beauty. Initial project discussions began in May 2020, and a groundbreaking ceremony took place in May 2022. Now, this stunning landmark on the hillside of the school grounds reached completion in April 2024. 

This project, led by PCD’s Manager of Design Engineers, Gordon Barnes, and in collaboration with Ian Hunter of The Shalleck Collaborative, represents a new era for how PCD navigates upgrading educational AV systems. The Vision and Execution

From its conception, the Sonoma Academy PAC was envisioned as more than just a student performance space. It was designed to be a hub of creativity powered by cutting-edge technology. Managed by DPR Construction and in partnership with Long Electric, PCD’s team integrated only the best audiovisual components. The centerpieces of this system are the Dolby Atmos audio and Meyer Sound speakers, coupled with a Christie Cinema projector and a Strong MDI screen for a high-end cinema-quality audiovisual experience.

Next-Level Audiovisual Features

The generosity of a parent donating a complete Dolby Atmos system transformed the PAC into a venue with unmatched sound quality that will undoubtedly elevate every type of performance and presentation.

The PAC’s AV system includes Dolby amplifiers for theater sound, QSC speakers for program paging, and a blend of Dolby and Meyer Sound processors and speakers that envelop the audience in a rich, immersive audio landscape. The precision and clarity of Shure microphones with an intuitive QSYS control system complement the state-of-the-art Clear Com paging and Listen Tech assisted listening devices, creating a seamless audio experience that’s inclusive of everyone.

Visual Splendor

Visual technology at the PAC is equally impressive. A custom-mounted Christie 4K Cinema projector with a High-Contrast lens projects onto a Strong MDI screen measuring 17 feet high and 31.5 feet wide. This setup elevates the viewing experience to professional cinema standards, making every performance and presentation a spectacular visual feast.

Beyond the Theater

The PAC’s influence extends beyond the main theater seats. With a dedicated classroom equipped with top-tier audio/video technology, instructors foster an interactive learning environment. A comprehensive FF&E package includes portable equipment for performances and custom-built portable carts for Dolby Screen system speakers. This furniture, fixtures, and equipment package sets a new bar for educational facility flexibility and production excellence.
