Here at PCD, our crew of highly-certified installers and technicians stand out because of their experience and knowledge of audio, video, and communications systems. PCD’s installation team are all members of the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) union. Our Northern California JATC training program for Apprentices is run through the Union as well, giving our staff consistency throughout their training and preparing them with the technical aptitude they need to succeed in an ever-changing technological world.

Necessary Skillset

Audio Visual Technicians must be well versed in the transportation, assembly, maintenance and repair of all equipment used in AV systems. Techs must be able to troubleshoot, be flexible, and have strong communication skills. The ability to interact positively with coworkers and clients alike, often under pressure of construction or production deadlines, is a must.

Desired Qualifications
AVIXA sets the best practices for design, operation and implementation of systems in the AV industry, and their top credentials is the Certified Technology Specialist (CTS). PCD has five field staff members who are CTS certified, and one CTS-I specializing in Installation. The ability to wire AV racks, install displays, projectors, projection screens and speakers is the foundation of any installer. Building upon that, degrees and certificates that help an AV Technician stand out are Extron’s Control Systems, Crestron’s CTI-P101, and certification in DSP products such as Mediamatrix, QSYS, Symnet, BSS or BiAmp. Another skill is having the ability to fine tune a room using tools such as SMAART.
